The Consumers and Users organisation has warned of a scam in a fake Microsoft appeal. Cyber criminals claim to continuously access your devices in order to, gain access to people’s private data and thus get your money.

The numbers from which these scammers usually access, are long and foreign, and will not be Spanish people. They usually speak in English, even if this is not their main language.

If you let them continue talking, they will explain that they are a Microsoft technician and that they are contacting you because they have detected that you have a serious problem with your computer (or other device), and will give you instructions on how to resolve the issue.

They will tell you that to fix it you need to allow the installation of a remote access program: they will send you a link which you need to enter. If you click on this link, you have just given them access to your computer, and from here, they can do whatever they want: steal passwords, data or ask you for money for the supposed repair.
